Character: Princess Cadence (short for "Princess Mi Amore Cadenza")
Age: The pony equivalent of early to mid 20s

Background: Before and after she became a princess

Personality:
As the Princess of Love, Cadence has a deep understanding of that emotion. She shares it in a variety of ways ranging from familial love--such as what she feels for her adoptive aunts and for the foals under her care when she was a babysitter--and romantic love which she shares with her husband Shining Armor. It's an emotion she takes great care to nurture in her subjects, the Crystal Ponies, particularly after they'd been enslaved by King Sombra and then sealed away for a thousand years by his curse. The term "loved ones" for her encompasses not just her family and friends but also all the ponies under her rule.

She possesses very good leadership skills and is able to keep calm under pressure which she puts into regular practice as the ruler of the Crystal Empire. These are likely skills she cultivated at Celestia's hooves following her ascension to Alicorn status and Celestia's adopting her as her royal niece. Cadence isn't prone to panic, taking a moment to pause and think things through. That isn't to say she won't act quickly and decisively in an emergency, however. Cadence is fiercely protective of her loved ones, acting swiftly when there's no time to plan out a response to a threat. She will do everything in her power to defend those she cares for even if it drives her past her physical and magical limits.

When in a situation that requires Cadance to be more serious, she has a tendency to knuckle down and focus on what needs to get done. She loses her smiles as her entire demeanor changes to a much more determined pony who will stop at nothing save dark magic to protect her loved ones. Should that mean battle, she isn't afraid to fight herself when the need arises, diving into the fray with spell and hoof at the ready. It's a trait that mirrors Celestia; not surprising given that her adoptive aunt took her under her wing at such a young age.

Of course, not all serious or stressful situations require the willpower to lock horns (sometimes literally) with an opponent. The everyday stresses of running the Crystal Empire could easily overwhelm someone after a while. However, as the stress begins to build up, she will pause to perform a breathing exercise to help release some of the tension to allow her to think more clearly. This technique she taught to Twilight long before her sister-in-law gained her own set of wings.

However, Cadence does have a fun-loving side. As much as she loves the Crystal Empire, she can get a little tired of how predictable life there can be and likes having a little excitement. She also enjoys teasing her friends and husband when the opportunity arises such as when she teased her sister-in-law and former foalsitting charge Twilight Sparkle who'd taken notice of Flash Sentry, one of the Crystal Empire guards. This also can make her more approachable to others given that she'll do things like greet Twilight with the old nursery chant and dance the two had come up with when she was still foalsitting Twilight despite both of them being adults and Alicorn princesses.

Abilities:

• Alicorn Magic - As an Alicorn, Cadence possesses the basic magical abilities of a Unicorn, a Pegasus, and an Earth Pony at a stronger level than any one of those three races.




• Unicorn Magic - The ability to cast specific magic spells--both light and dark magic spells--using their horns based upon training and magical talent. All Unicorns can also use their magic to levitate items or even other ponies though this is also dependent on a Unicorn's (or Alicorn's) strength.


• Pegasus Magic - The ability to fly and control the weather using their wings along with manipulating clouds with their hooves. This also allows them the ability to walk and even sleep on clouds.


• Earth Pony Magic - The ability to channel magic into the earth using their hooves to cultivate plants. Earth ponies also seem to be typically physically stronger and sturdier than the other two races.




• Love Magic - Cadence is able to bring feelings of love to the surface and even use her own love for others to boost their abilities. Note: She can't create feelings of love in someone else; she can only bring pre-existing feelings to the forefront of someone's emotions.


• Magical Blasts - A basic blast of raw magical energy, typically used offensively.


• Shield Magic - Cadence can create magical shields to deflect magical and physical attacks. She's particularly skilled at these (probably due to the tutelage of her husband Shining Armor) and managed to maintain a massive shield over the Crystal Empire for several days with no food or sleep as King Sombra attacked from the outside. However, unlike Shining Armor who can cast a shield spell and then periodically cast another spell to maintain it, she must maintain the spell at all times in order for the shield to stay active. Should she lose concentration, run out of energy, or fall unconscious, the shield will collapse.


• Crystal Magic - Cadence can cause crystals to sprout and grow from different places much like King Sombra did. However, this seems to be a relatively new ability and she can't create the same massive crystal structures he could. She likely is still learning it from the Crystal Ponies and needs more practice.

Alignment: Ragebird Elios because she's the Princess of Love. She's already deeply connected to the emotion back in her own world. It makes sense that this would carry over to Verens.

Other: Just your basic bright pink magical pony princess.
